Cosplayers ... A new supermodels?! * document type *

Written by: Nadine Fajardo

In our world today, people tastes in fashion changes, first it was the classics then they became the hippies, until they became what we know as hip-hop, gangster look, peppy style, gothic punk, girly look and even the k-pop style.

But little did we know that there are a lot of styles in fashion. For example the “visual kei” some people especially musicians or singers have this style especially those singers in a rock band. Though this style is only portrayed by the singers in Japan.
But, we got one style from the land of the rising sun, and that is the anime style.
Some people love to look like an anime for they said it was cute or beautiful, and for some reason this became an event; just like a fashion show, but the differences is that the entrance fee is not that pricey compared to a runway show, and any normal person can go.

A Cosplay event is done monthly or event twice a month, though it is a Japanese custom many Filipinos are very in to it. Some became really famous because of it; while some does this as a hobby or to profit from selling their costumes.

In a Cosplay event the people who are called “Cosplayers” wore their costumes and ramped on stage; just like a super model does, but the unique part in this fashion show is that; every cosplayer needs to portray their specific characters. This can be done by group, or by just yourself. A cosplayer can portray his/her character by the way they walk or ramp on stage, the way they pose, the way they talk ( yes, in a cosplay event they allow the cosplayers to introduce their selves or to speak a minimal amount of words just to express their own characters.) or even the attitudes of the character. Being a cosplayer is very hard especially if the character you are portraying has the exact opposite of your attitudes.
Here are some cosplayers that will share their own experiences in cosplaying

First of would be Mr. Krister Famorca

“I started cosplaying last march 16, on an event in our school. Cosplaying “Claude Faustus” From the anime kuroshitsuji II (black butler 2) at first I felt nervous when I ramped on stage with my partner. But I just acted the way my character should. The things that motivates me is the feeling of actually cosplaying the character I like and that feeling is enough to become an inspiration for me to continue cosplaying.”

Next would be. Mr. Ervin Fandialan

“I started last February, my 1st impression about cosplay was fun but I kind of doubted myself when I first tried it, but when I continued it, it felt well.” Tsnuayoshi sawada” from KHR was my 1st cosplay because we almost had the same characteristics ; when I watched the series I had my eyes set on Hibari Kyouya but as the series progresses I had my eyes set on Tsuna, and also because he is pretty cool. every cosplayer motivates me, whoever the person who would cosplay they will became my inspiration, that’s why I started cosplaying because I get envious whenever I see one.”

Next would be Ms. Jolleen Gabriel

“I started on April 2009, 1st convetion of Ozinefest ’09. On my first cosplay I felt excited yet nervous, at the same time I never expect that people would ask for my picture, I thought that we’re just going to walk around in costumes and enjoy the show. My 1st cosplay was an *OC (original character) of a maid design and not from any anime, unfortunately. My motivation is my love for anime, and being able to portray my favorite characters, I feel so accomplished knowing that I was able to cosplay my chosen character well.”

And for the last Mr, Ralph Quiambao

“I started cosplaying on June 2006, all I can say what I felt during my 1st time in cosplaying was “awesome”. My motivation is my passion on cosplaying, and also in cosplay I achieved some things like; I got chosen to become a model for an event. And lastly my message to all the people who also want to be cosplayer too. All I can say is try it! :)
